Ralph Metzner wurde in 1936 in Berlin geboren, zu einer Schottischen Mutter und Deutschen Vater. Er lebte in Deutschland mit seiner Familie in den ersten zehn Jahren seines Lebens, die zusammenfielen mit dem 2. Weltkrieg und der Zerstörung der deutschen Nation. Das zweite, jugendliche Jahrzent, verbrachte er in einem Englischen Internat und in der Oxford Universität. Also war Deutsch seine erste Sprache und Englisch die zweite. Er machte seine Doktorarbeit in der Psychologie an der Harvard Universität in den 1960er Jahren. Dort kam er in Kontakt mit Timothy Leary und arbeitete an Studien mit bewusstsein-erweiternden Pflanzen, Substanzen und Pilzen. Seit diese Zeit lebt er in California als Psychotherapeut, Akademiker, Forscher, Schriftsteller und Lehrer in Studien des Bewusstseins und deren vielfältigen Wandlungen. In diesem Buch hat er mystische Schriften und visionäre Gedichte von tausend Jahren Europäischer Literatur gesammelt und übersetzt.
Ralph Metzner was born in 1936 in Berlin, to a Scottish mother and German father. He lived in Germany with his family during the first ten years of his life, coinciding with WWII and the destruction of the German nation. The second, adolescent decade was spent in an English boarding school and at Oxford University. Thus German was his first language and English his second. He obtained a doctorate in psychology at Harvard University in the 1960s. There he came into contact with psychologist Timothy Leary and conducted research studies with consciousness-expanding plants, substances and fungi. Since that time he has lived in California, where he has been, and still is, a psychotherapist, academic, researcher, writer and teacher in studies of consciousness and its multifarious transformations. In this book, he has gathered and translated mystical writings and visionary poems from a thousand years of European literature.
